如果说上汽收购双龙有什么收获的话，那么荣威W5算是其中最大的收获之一。借助双龙享御的平台，上汽开发出了荣威W5，这也是20万价位为数不多的硬派SUV之一。由于硬派SUV现在已经让位与城市SUV，因此W5也只是维持着一定的销量，目前也有较大的优惠幅度。

作为一款硬派SUV，荣威W5采用了非承载式车身，前双叉臂后整体桥的悬挂形式，加上电控分时四驱，在通过性和越野性能上都有一定的保障。当然，W5并不是纯正意义上的越野车，它还是主打舒适性的，尤其是静音效果在同级车中也算是比较突出的。

荣威W5的动力采用1.8T和3.2升两款汽油机，前者算是它的主力动力，也曾经在550、750等荣威车型上装备。这台1.8T发动机最大功率160马力（118千瓦），最大扭矩215牛·米在2000-4500转输出，虽然谈不上强劲，但是发动机技术比较成熟，同时匹配的6速自动变速器也表现中规中矩。

虽然是一款硬派SUV，但是荣威W5的市场对手却并不是哈弗、猎豹这样的自主硬派SUV，它的主要竞争对象还是诸如ix35、RAV4这样的日韩系城市SUV。而在降价之后，它的性价比也显得比较突出，对于喜欢这种类型SUV，同时对于做工用料和舒适性又有一定需求的用户可以说是个不错的选择。
